Facing Scrupulosity and Finding Peace on the Pilgrimage

Ardere

I meet many people who struggle with scrupulosity, and in different ways I think I've seen it in myself. Lots could be said about it, but it seems to me to involve a disordered concern or desire for our own righteousness. St. Bernard, following St. Augustine, once defined pride as a "love of one's own excellence." When we are being scrupulous, we are overly concerned with our own righteousness, that is, we're concerned about it in a way that does not reflect the truth of our human nature and the Gospel. I hope this talk helps everyone who listens find greater confidence in God, and greater peace within themselves -- and with that the real energy that will lead us to overcome the real sins that afflict us. About Podcast

There is only one true and lasting energy -- the love of God. Drawing upon the Cistercian tradition, the Ardere Podcast delivers Catholic content designed to enflame the heart with ardent love for God and neighbor. It is inspired by Bl. John Brenner, a Hungarian Cistercian for whom the motto "to be aflame and to enlighten" (ardere et lucere) was a guiding principle until his martyrdom under communism in 1957. His icon is the image for this podcast.
