Distracted? Learn to pray with St. Bernard!
Ardere
We all need to learn to pray. The saints are our best teachers, because they show us how we frail human beings can open ourselves to the Holy Spirit and pray in union with Jesus. Do you ever get distracted in prayer? In this video, I share a "pro tip" from St. Bernard of Clairvaux about identifying and avoiding some of the things that can make it hard for us to stay recollected. I base the video on the following quotation from his work "On Consideration" (Book V, §9 ).“What if the soul were totally recollected and with affections recalled from all the places they were held captive by fearing what should not be feared, loving what was unworthy, grieving vainly and more vainly rejoicing, it began to soar with total liberty, to drive on under the impulse of the spirit and to glide along in abundance of grace?”
