A fatherless slave to the Portuguese in Brazil, Francisca was raised by her pious mother who taught her to love the Lord. When she gained her freedom she dedicated herself fully to the service of God and the poor. Affectionately known by those in her community as a mother to the poor, she willingly gave everything to help benefit those in need. Saint Francisca de Paula de Jesus 1810 - 1895. Feast day: June 14.
