A well educated young man, Epiphanius adopted an ascetic lifestyle, became a hermit in the desert, and was eventually famed for his holiness and miracles. As a bishop he was well known for his generosity to the poor and his strong distaste for idolatry through the dangers of worshiping holy images. Saint Epiphanius. Died 403. Feast day: May 12.
