September 24: ST. GERARD OF CSANÁD: Rerouted for Christ
Catholic Sprouts: Daily Podcast for Catholic Kids
A storm blew St. Gerard of Csanád off course toward the Holy Land — and sent him to Hungary instead, where he tutored a future saint. Bound for the Holy Land, Gerard's ship was forced ashore by a storm, and he ended up staying in Hungary as a missionary bishop instead, personally tutoring the boy who became St. Emeric. He was martyred in 1046 during a pagan uprising, having spent his life noticing people — like a singing slave woman — that others overlooked. "Sometimes God doesn't answer our prayers by getting us where we meant to go. Sometimes He answers them by sending us somewhere we never expected at all." Today's challenge is just the start.
