S6E3: Unsinkable | Voyage on the Titanic (Margaret "Molly" Brown)
Holy Donors
We ended last week’s Holy Donors’ episode with Margaret’s separation from her husband J.J. In the years following their separation, Margaret continues to fundraise and to travel. In 1912, Margaret is traveling in Europe with her daughter Helen when she receives word that her grandson is sick. Desperate to return home, Margaret purchases the first ticket she can get back to the United States, and unfortunately, first available is not always best. In this episode, we hear all about Margaret’s fateful voyage on the “unsinkable” Titanic. Our hosts share stories of Margaret’s voyage on the Titanic, her escape on Lifeboat #6, and her subsequent rescue and return to the United States on the Carpathia. In her typical “get things done” mindset, Margaret organizes help for the widows and orphans from the Titanic before the Carpathia even touches land again. She encourages other wealthy Titanic survivors to donate funds, and it is because of her leadership and generosity that survivors and those who lost family members on the Titanic receive financial assistance. So many questions remain, however. Did Margaret’s grandson survive his illness? What does Margaret do in her post-Titanic years? Join us next week to continue the discussion! --- Recommended reading: "Molly Brown: Unraveling the Myth" by Kristen Iversen --- Holy Donors is brought to you by Petrus Development (petrusdevelopment.com) in cooperation with RED-C Catholic Radio (redcradio.org).
