CULTURE TUESDAY - Animal Farm Review by Helena Judd
Radio Maria UK
Ora et Labora... et Cinema? St Benedict, Animal Farm and Family Film Nights. Pray and work, said St Benedict, but rest matters too! So last week, Helena and her family swapped the labora for the cinema and watched the new Animal Farm, directed by Andy Serkis and distributed by Angel Studios. The boys loved it. Mum had questions. In this episode of Culture Tuesday, Helena takes a Catholic look at Orwell's classic tale re-imagined for families. Why does Orwell give a powerful story of corrupted power so brilliantly, yet offers no cure? What does Moses the raven and his Sugarcandy Mountain get wrong about Christian hope? And where does true human dignity come from, if not from politics? Plus: the case for watching hard stories with your children rather than hiding from them, a warm recommendation for the Wingfeather Saga on Angel Studios, and why an air conditioned cinema followed by a good conversation might be the perfect way to spend a hot July afternoon. Just make sure you chat about it afterwards. Please consider supporting us with a one-off or monthly donation.
