CULTURE TUESDAY - Film Review: Project Hail Mary
Radio Maria UK
On this week’s Culture Tuesday, Helena returns from Easter break with a heartfelt and thought-provoking review of the new science fiction film Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling. Blending personal reflection with Easter themes of resurrection, grace and renewal, Helena explores how the film’s story of an astronaut on a last-chance mission to save Earth unexpectedly echoes deep spiritual truths. From its central character Ryland Grace to its themes of sacrifice, friendship and hope in the face of isolation, she draws out surprising parallels with Catholic understandings of grace. Along the way, Helena reflects on key moments in the film, its emotional storytelling, striking visuals and moving depiction of the connection between worlds, including the astronaut’s unlikely friendship with an alien companion. She also considers how secular storytelling can still point towards deeper questions of meaning, love and salvation. With honesty, humour and plenty of enthusiasm, this episode offers a unique Catholic lens on a major new cinema release while inviting listeners to reflect on grace at work in unexpected places.
