Music for Easteride - Episode 2

Radio Maria UK

Music for Easteride - Episode 2 In ‘Music for Eastertide’ Matthew Ward introduces songs and instrumental works from over a thousand years of music celebrating the most important date in the Church’s year. From dramatic re-imaginings of the Easter events to music for the liturgies of the season, this series will explore music both well-loved and unfamiliar. In the Easter Octave the programmes will focus on the first events of Easter: Jesus’ resurrection and his first apparitions. After this, programmes will focus on various aspects of Eastertide, including a programme on settings of the word ‘Alleluia’ and one on Easter Marian music, culminating in programmes of music for Ascension and Pentecost. Join Matthew in a journey of musical exploration which will not fail to lift your spirits and deepen your experience of Easter joy this year. Episode 2 Music relating to two more encounters with the risen Lord: that of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, and that of Thomas in the upper room, both transformative experiences for the apostles. Music includes, Sister Leonora’s ‘Haec dies’, Charpentier’s ‘Victimae Paschali laudes’, Rubbra’s ninth symphony, ‘Conversation Piece’, Michael Haydn’s ‘Hallelujah In die Resurrectionis meae’, a performance from the Marcel Peres and the Ensemble Organum, Morales’ motet ‘Dominus meus’ and ‘Resurrexit’ from Franz Liszt’s Oratorio Christus.
