Israeli Defense Minister Katz announced yesterday that Israel plans to occupy southern Lebanon up to the Litani River — an area that would amount to nearly a tenth of Lebanon. The Department of War will be deploying 3,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne to the Middle East, though officials repeated that no decision has yet been made to put American boots on the ground.
