Ep 189 | The Damage of Divorce
Seeking Excellence with Nathan Crankfield
Divorce is one of those very sensitive topics that the Church has an obligation to address. However, we almost never hear the Church's teaching on divorce. Why is that? I believe it's because divorce has been so normalized in the culture that Church leaders are afraid to touch it. This often leads to confusion and ambiguity on a very clear teaching as well as a neglect toward the children who suffer the trauma of their parents' divorce. Divorce today is viewed as a breaking of a contract. It's viewed as two adults voluntarily making a decision that's best for them. It leaves the kids confused, hurt, and in a broken home. I recently went on a retreat with Life Giving Wounds that focuses on healing for adult children of divorce. This episode is a summary of the Church's teaching on divorce as well as some reflection on my take aways from that retreat. If you find this episode useful as a child of divorce or a friend of someone who is, please share this episode with another person who would benefit from this often ignored topic!
