What Is the Septuagint?
Stunned by Scripture
Is Hebrew the definitive language of Scripture? Not according to Jesus and other first-century Jews. In this episode of Stunned by Scripture, Dr. John Bergsma uncovers the story of the Septuagint. Translated by Jewish scholars in the third century B.C., the Septuagint is the ancient Greek version of the Hebrew Old Testament. It is also the version of Scripture quoted by Jesus throughout the New Testament. Dr. Bergsma explains why it’s called the “Septuagint” and shares the fascinating tradition behind that title. Even today, the Septuagint remains important. As a careful translation of the Hebrew Scriptures, it reveals how the Greek-speaking Jews of Jesus's day understood God’s Word. Watch this installment of Stunned by Scripture to discover the version of Scripture that, more than any other, formed the early Church. ✨ Join the largest group Bible Study in America—Bible Across America ➡️ https://stpaulcenter.com/america ___ Other ways to grow with the St. Paul Center: ⛪️ If you're a Priest looking to attend one of our annual Priest Conferences: https://stpaulcenter.co/priestconferences 📖 Start a Bible study with the St. Paul Center: https://stpaulcenter.co/biblestudies ✈️ Go on a pilgrimage with us: https://stpaulcenter.co/pilgrimages 🛒 Browse our bookstore: https://stpaulcenter.co/emmausroadpublishing 🔥 Support our mission: https://stpaulcenter.co/donate ___ Follow the St. Paul Center on Social Media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stpaulcenter?igsh=anloZXB4dDdjcHI1&utm_source=qr Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/177cb1WMS5/?mibextid=wwXIfr X/Twitter: https://x.com/saintpaulcenter?s=21&t=8_4yim_uMnTcaKXDbGGuVQ #stpaulcenter #johnbergsma #stunnedbyscripture #septuagint #christian #catholic #protestant
