Why the pro-life movement struggles to reach Black people

The Gloria Purvis Podcast

When Cherilyn Holloway first learned how abortion was impacting the Black community, she was shocked. Why weren't more people concerned and doing something about it? She quickly discovered that the pro-life movement had an image problem: they only cared about the unborn. So, Cherilyn founded Pro-Black Pro-Life, a movement seeking to engage black communities for action on the issue of life and to ultimately transform thought. Gloria and Cherilyn take a hard look at the pro-life movement in the U.S. today: its narrow focus on abortion, its tendency to tokenize Black people and its inability to have honest conversations about member's lived experiences. They also discuss racial stereotypes within the movement and its dangerous alignment with Republican politics. About Podcast

Too many voices are not being heard in the Catholic Church today. "The Gloria Purvis Podcast" is a new podcast from America Media hosted by radio personality and Catholic commentator, Gloria Purvis. The podcast centers the opinions, stories and experiences of individuals who have been marginalized in the Catholic Church and in society. A consistent ethic of life informs the conversations and honestly critiques narrow applications of Catholic teachings and ideological attitudes. It's not liberal, it's not conservative. It's all about fostering a culture of charitable dialogue around the most complex and contentious issues in the Catholic Church today. It's just Catholic. Episodes will release weekly.
