Mysteria Dolorosa - The Sorrowful Mysteries

The Most Holy Rosary in Latin

The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary guide us through the profound suffering and ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our salvation. These mysteries invite us to meditate on the Passion of our Lord, reflecting on His love, obedience, and endurance in the face of unimaginable pain. Each mystery is rooted in Scripture and draws us deeper into the redemptive power of Christ's sacrifice. The Agony in the Garden, Agonia in Hortu(Matthew 26:36-46)Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane, overwhelmed with sorrow as He contemplates the suffering He is about to endure. In His agony, He submits to the Father’s will, saying, "Not as I will, but as You will." The Scourging at the Pillar, Flagellatio ad Columna(John 19:1)Jesus is brutally scourged by the Roman soldiers at Pilate’s command. The innocent Lamb of God endures this torment to atone for the sins of humanity. The Crowning with Thorns, Coronatio Spineae(Matthew 27:29)Mocking His kingship, the soldiers place a crown of thorns on Jesus' head, striking and spitting upon Him. Yet, in His silence, Jesus exemplifies true kingship and humility. The Carrying of the Cross, Portatio Crucis(Luke 23:26-32)Jesus, weakened and bruised, carries the heavy cross through the streets of Jerusalem to Golgotha. Despite His suffering, He moves forward, shouldering the burden of our sins. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus, Crucifixio et Mors Iesu(Luke 23:33-46)Jesus is nailed to the cross and dies for the salvation of the world. In His final moments, He offers forgiveness, love, and surrender to the Father, saying, "Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit." Through meditating on these mysteries, we remember Christ’s ultimate act of love and the price of our redemption.
