Mysteria Gloriosa - The Glorious Mysteries
The Most Holy Rosary in Latin
The Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary lead us to meditate on the triumph and glory of Jesus Christ, from His resurrection to the descent of the Holy Spirit and the glorification of His Blessed Mother. These mysteries fill us with hope, reminding us of the victory of Christ over death and the promise of eternal life. 1. The Resurrection, Resurrectio (Matthew 28:1-10) Jesus rises from the dead on the third day, triumphing over sin and death. The empty tomb is discovered by Mary Magdalene and the other women, and Jesus appears to them, proclaiming, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers." 2. The Ascension, Latin: Ascensio (Acts 1:6-11) After appearing to His disciples for forty days, Jesus ascends into heaven, promising to send the Holy Spirit. As He is taken up, He instructs His disciples to spread the Gospel "to the ends of the earth." 3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit, Descensus Spiritus Sancti(Acts 2:1-4) On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descends upon Mary and the Apostles, filling them with His power. Tongues of fire rest upon them, and they begin to speak in different languages, proclaiming the Good News to all nations. 4. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Assumptio Beatae Mariae Virginis Revelation 12:1; Psalm 45:10-12 At the end of her earthly life, Mary is taken up body and soul into heaven. The Church teaches that Mary, free from sin, is assumed into heaven as a sign of the future glory awaiting all faithful believers. 5. The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Coronatio Beatae Mariae VirginisRevelation 12:1 Mary is crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth, a reward for her faithful obedience to God’s will. She reigns as Queen, interceding for us as our most loving Mother, clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars on her head. Through meditating on these Glorious Mysteries we reflect on the promise of eternal life and the glory that awaits us in union with Christ and His Blessed Mother.
