Was the Catholic Church Hidden in Adam’s Side?
The Steward’s Key
Was the Catholic Church already hidden in the side of Adam? In this episode of Catholic Steel Man, we explore one of Scripture’s most beautiful typological patterns: Adam, Eve, Christ, and the Church. Genesis 2 tells us that Adam falls into a deep sleep, his side is opened, and from that side God brings forth his bride. In the New Testament, Christ—the New Adam—enters the sleep of death, His side is pierced, and blood and water flow forth. Is this merely a coincidence, or is Scripture revealing one unified story? We examine: • Adam as a type of Christ • Eve as a type of the Church • The pierced side of Jesus in John 19 • Paul’s teaching on Christ and His Bride in Ephesians 5 • Why biblical typology points toward one visible, covenantal Church This episode does not argue that Genesis 2 alone proves every Catholic claim. Instead, it asks a deeper question: If Adam foreshadows Christ, what does Eve teach us to expect about Christ’s Bride? Typology gives us the profile of Christ’s Bride. History tells us who fits that profile. The Church is not a later addition to the Gospel. She is hidden in Adam’s side, revealed at Christ’s side, and destined for the wedding feast of the Lamb.
