The Great Good of Social Dancing: A Reply to My Critics
Tradition and Sanity
When I published the trio of articles last week entitled “Why Catholics Should Learn to Dance,” little did I realize what a nerve I would be touching! The post quickly surpassed, in all statistics of engagement, any post that has appeared at this Substack since it began in April 2023. Clearly, this is a topic people need and want to hear about. People who oppose social dancing have persuaded themselves that “all the saints” and “the Magisterium” condemn dances altogether—a gross exaggeration and an unsustainable avenue of argument, as we shall see.
