Why Do Catholics Treat The SSPX and Protestants Different?

The SSPX has officially been excommunicated from the Catholic Church. I have seen many Catholics express sorrow over this and rightfully so. This caused me to, almost immediately, think of our Protestant brothers and sisters. We need to extend that same desire of reunification we have with the SSPX to our Protestant brothers and sisters.
